St. Patrick's Day treats

Inspired by this post from Cheri & and this post from Kristan - I made St Patrick's Day treats.
I baked some dark chocolate brownies and my wonderful husband cut them out using a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter. Then we dipped them in melted green candy melts.
After putting them in the fridge to set-up, I put one each in a ziploc sandwich bag. I cut of the top and used Picnik to create this collage. (The images used are from Google images)

I also made a collage using pictures of the kids, but this one (and one more just like it) were for Jeff to give to the kids today when he sees them. Jeff's parent's will each receive one with images of the kids.

I cut out a bunch of shamrocks then ran them through different Cuttlebug folders. Next I punched a little hole in each of them, which I reinforced with an eyelet. I used some clear fishing line to hang some shamrocks from the ceiling fan, over the window, and from our mantle.

Before hanging them my husband helped me ink the edges - what a guy!

Canvas subway art

I painted this canvas green and cut some shamrocks for another project (to be seen soon) and used the negatives to paint white shamrocks on top of the green background. While the white paint dried, I cut some St Patrick's Day themed-words in green vinyl. I applied them on top of the painted canvas. I haven't yet decided where it will hang, for now it sits on the window sill over the kitchen sink.

A Valentine's Project

A Valentine's treat bag inspired from Diane over at Capadia Design.
The base paper is from the K&Company KP Valentine stack.
Diane has the .cut file for this project on her blog, which uses the Doodlecharms cartridge - making it super easy!
The pink scalloped heart was cut on DCWV cs.
The white top heart was cut on white cs and run through my Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots embossing folder.
I scored the base of the treat bag with my Scor-Pal at 5" & 6" - making the base so the treat bag can stand.
I used my ATG to assemble the layers.
Then a treat bag is filled with Dove dark chocolate for DH.
Stand the bag up, and carefully use a hole punch to punch 2 holes through all the layers..
Thread a ribbon through each hole and tie a cute bow (ribbon from the $1 bin at Target)
Viola, a sweet treat bag

I just noticed that the base layer in the photo is upside down, the other side is not upside down - so next time I will make sure that side faces front.

Valentine's Wreath

Another ribbon wreath! Lots of ribbon tied around a wreath form. Simple but attractive door hanging. I went to Dollar Tree for a $1 wreath form. I picked the ribbon up at Hobby Lobby (50% off - yeah)!

I cut each strip of ribbon about 12" long. Then I tied each strip around the form. I push the ribbon strips close together so it gets really full. I fluffed it and hung it - viola!

Pink, red and hearts - and the door is ready for February 14th!

More time crafting

Part of my goal to post more will involve me designating time to craft (love those ulterior motives).

To that end I will also try to participate in more challenges, because there are deadlines and that will help push me to actually spend/schedule time to craft.

I really liked when I made at least one card a week for There's Magic in the Air. The challenge goes up on Monday through Sunday. This week's challenge is to make a thank you card and actually send it. I am a big believer in thank you cards, you don't use a present until the card is written and stamped. So unfortunately, I already sent out cards, and didn't hand make a one. I did make a quick card for the mailman so I could participate in the challenge. Technically I did not mail it, but I am thanking the mailman for all his recent efforts in delivering packages.

Nina has tons of cute digi images, that are great for cards in her store. I did not use one for this card - but I will use some for some upcoming Valentine's cards.

Happy New Year! I am a little late in posting that, but the sentiment is genuine.
I am going to work harder to keep my blog up to date.
To that end, I would like to share 2 of my newest purchases.
Yesterday I purchased the Gypsy for $50. I had no inclination to own a Gypsy, but for the price, how could I turn it down? Thanks Mom & Dad, I used my birthday money ;)
I originally did not plan on investing in a Gypsy, because while I love my Cricut I don't really use it to create lay-out's. I cut images and words, and I have found SCAL to have many more options. But I am going to work really hard to read about the Gypsy this week, and maybe dazzle myself.
My other big purchase was some Papertrey stamps. I previously mentioned that I am not a big stamper, I find it messy and I smear ink, and I am never patient enough to let the ink dry. I use digi stamps, which I love. I used some Staz-On ink, and I realized that the quality and type of ink used really make a difference (duh I know, but there I haven't come across Stamping for Dummies).
Recently I saw a card over here, and I loved how she uses stamped sentiments. So I hopped over to Papertrey and saw tons of fun stuff. Since I had some success with Staz-On ink, I decided to take the plunge. I picked out 5 sets of stamps and will be playing with those in the coming days.
For Christmas Jeff bought me some Staz-On ink pads so I hope I will be successful.
Tonight I should be back to show off the cute snowman clothes pins the kids made.

Christmas Tree

This was big year for changes when it came to our Christmas tree.
First off, we went with a real tree. Jeff & I both were raised with artificial trees, and we continued that when we married. We both wanted to try a real tree, so we did. Now we can say we've done it,and I'm pretty sure we will be going back to our artificial tree.
Besides the messy needles and constant watering, the top of the tree is very crooked, I can't straighten it no matter what I try.

However, it is our first real tree, so it stays for this year.

The other big change are the colored lights. Again Jeff & I grew up with colored lights, but I love the beauty and simplicity of white lights, so we have had white lights. Rileigh has asked for colored lights for the past three years, so this year she got her wish.
Rileigh always puts the star on top of the tree because she does most of the decorating.

This year we also hung lots of ornaments from when I was a child - the kids liked the "new" additions.
Every year the kids get to pick out a new ornament for the tree, so we will do that this weekend.

Advent wreath

Cheri's recent post reminded me that so often the true meaning of Christmas is lost on commercial ventures.

To that end, I really want Rileigh & Maddox to understand what Christmas is about (no, not presents).

So we added the good deeds in our Advent calendar. Rileigh & Maddox loved them! They liked seeing what the good deed was, and then that there were more to come. Their gifts to Jesus were really sweet too.

I also made out Advent wreath. "Bear" from work helped me out again, he cut the holes for the candles. I wrapped a green floral styrofoam wreath form (Dollar Tree) with glittery green ribbon (Walmart) using hot glue to tack it down. I only managed to burn myself once on this - yea for me :)

I glued the wrapped wreath to a white paper plate and hot glued a single glass tapered candle holder in the center for the white candle.

To help decorate it, I will add some evergreen cuttings. I hope this will help remind Jeff & I to slow down and think about what the Christmas spirit really means, and help build Rileigh & Maddox's excitement for the true meaning of Christmas.

Another great idea from Not So Idle Hands

This is a great idea for an easy hostess gift, or giveaway at your Christmas party (that's what I am doing with mine)

You will need white tissue paper, votive candles, a mini hole punch, a heat gun, a pretzel bag, ribbon and decorative paper.

Start with white tissue paper. Stamp some festive images in different colors. The stamped image should fit on the face of the candle.

Cut out the stamped image. I used a circle squeeze punch (the trick to using the punch is to put a piece of paper behind the tissue paper).

Next punch a hole in the middle of the image. Place the image on top of the candle (the wick goes through the hole). Next grab your heat gun. Melt the image into the wax. (Really you are heating up the wax below and the image will dry in the wax.)

After you do 5 candles they fit nicely into a pretzel bag. There are some great tags to put with the candles here, because they are for decorative use only. I mounted the tags on some scalloped circles, punched a hole and used the ribbon to tie the tag to the bag. Viola - a pretty gift!

More subway art

Since the 1st one went well, I decided to make one for the kids.

These pieces of wood are from Walmart - a little more than HL, but they are sturdy and since they will hang in the kids' rooms they need to be. (I did see smaller pieces at Michaels for under $2 - maybe for the next project)

Paint the wood, then cut the words out with vinyl - and use transfer tape to assemble. When you are all done spray with a glossy clear coat.

Pink for Rileigh, light blue for Maddox. The hard part was coming up with the right words. I didn't want to use the same words. I used three different fonts on Rileigh's and 4 colors of vinyl. For Maddox I went with bold print fonts and also 4 colors.

The last 3 styles of cards for Mom

This was a very simple card - I like the red & white contrast.
Gina K red paper - it is very vibrant. I'm not a big stamper. I thought it was because I couldn't get the hang of it and it's messy. But the more I read and try, and use better quality inks and stamps the more I keep coming back to try my hand again. I stamped the candy cane and completed it with white embossing powder.

I used SCAL to cut this image. Mounted on blue cardstock. I added a two stars and gold stickled the top one.

Light blue Core'dinations cardstock ran through the Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder and sanded. I cut the blue-grey scalloped circle out with a nestie. I colored the image with Copics and added a little Stickles.

Christmas pots

I decided that I was not going to spend more than $5 on my winter pots this year. All of the greens are from our yard and neighbors. The red twig sticks are such a great accompaniment to the displays. My grand total is $3.23! for the bows on the window boxes. I made them up as the temperature was dropping so I added water and within a few hours they had frozen.

The best part about them freezing is I don't go back to adjust and rearrange the sprigs, because once they're in, they are in. Yes you can change them, but that involves a lot more work. So I say que sera, sera

Nativity Blocks

Thank you Cheri. Your post about the Nativity blocks was so inspiring, that I made my own. I used the link Cheri offered for images - mostly because I wanted the blocks to be finished before the kids left this weekend. They both really liked them - Rileigh was under the weather this weekend so she didn't play with them, but Maddox couldn't wait for the Mod Podge to try so he could set them up.

First try at Subway art

I know Subway art is a new craze, and I have been wanting to try it. So instead of working on Christmas presents or vacuuming - I cut out some festive words with SCAL on some different colors of vinyl.

I picked up the piece of wood at HL for $2.99 (with a 40% off coupon) and painted it Evergreen. After it dried, I added my words.

The next morning I saw a few small gaps, and added a few more words. As a finishing touch I may spray it with a clear coat.

I am really happy with how this turned out. So much so that I made two more...

Mom's Christmas Cards

Here are 3 styles of the cards I made for my Mom this year.

Brown cardstock run through a Cuttlebug folder. The wreath is from Celebrate with Flourish. (I really like this new cart, thanks DH!)

Red cardstock - reindeer cut from Christmas Cheer. DH stickled the nose and glued on the hooves, antlers, and googly eyes. Added some ribbon at the bottom to finish it off.

Light blue cardstock ran through the Cuttlebug - Snowflake folder. The "Charlie Brown" tree is from Jolly Holidays. I stickled the ornaments and painted some Angel Wing Shimmerz on the snow at the base of the tree.

Christmas Card Holder

The idea/inspiration/credit for this idea came from here. Another blog full of amazing ideas.

My friend "Bear" in the metal shop at work fabricated the metal strips. I used Mod Podge(!) for the first time - and have to say "what have I been afraid of?" That stuff is awesome! I used Mod Podge to glue down the decorative paper and then another coat or two on top to seal them. I used 3M adhesive strips to mount them to the wall.

The magnets are homemade too! My wonderful DH went to HL and picked up large "marbles" and magnets (pack of 10 for $2.99-magnet strength 10) and adhesive M3000. Grab some scrap decorative paper. A dot of Mod Podge on the flat side of the marble and stick it to the paper. Once the paper dries, use your Exacto knife to trim around the marble (it doesn't have to be pretty). A coat on the other side of the paper to seal it. After that dries, put a dot of M3000 on the paper and stick the magnet to it. After it dries, you have a great, strong magnet. Word of advice - these magnets a re strong, so don't let them get too close to one another when drying. My magnets did travel off their designated spot on more than one occasion.

Another Thanksgiving Card

This is Templeton turkey (I can't remember where I got this digi) he is perfect for Thanksgiving cards.

Colored with copics, I used a gel pen color: Silver Star Star for the buckles on the hat and shoes.

The paper is all leftover scraps, with a little ribbon added for fun.

I re-found my chalk so I used a little of that around the nestie.

Rileigh was watching me blog tonight and announced that tomorrow she will be blogging here - so we'll see how the 7.5 year old fares.

TMITA Challenge

Well after many months, I made a card for the TMITA challenge. The challenge was to make a Thank you or Thanksgiving card. I used the Paper Cupcakes image "Autumn Splendor".

Colored with Copics, cut out with with a nestie and mounted on green paper. The dp is Debbie Mumm with a strip of Bazzil scrap paper on the left. The ribbon is from my stash.

Glad to be back band crafting. I've actually been crafting a lot, but not taking the time to post. I will try to remedy that in the coming days. Thanks for looking!

This may be my favorite Halloween card. I totally scrap lifted it from a woman's design at Paper Source, but she told me how to make it so I think it's okay. I used SCAL to cut "grass" for the hair and the MS drippy goo punch for eyebrows. The eyes are metal-rimmed paper key tags (such a smart idea), the teeth were typed then a semicircle cut for the mouth. Hope Maddox likes Frankenstein

Then I ordered some t's for the 4 of us (only took pix of 3 t's) The kids love them, and I like when we all match - so win, win

Halloween Invite

Lots of MS punches here - the leaf border punch and drippy goo on the orange. A MS punch with the bats and "EEK" on the left. I stamped a white ghost to finish the front.

On the back I used the MS spiderweb border punch on the top and mice and gravestones on the bottom. A Fiskars squeeze punch for the ghosts and EK Success spider on some black glittery punch. I stamped a jack-o-lantern and "beware" for a little hint of spooky.

The kids loved them, and they will be great to scrap.

I'm sorry blog world - it has been too long. I actually hae been crafting, just not sharing.
I promise to remedy that tonight - I have the kids' Halloween party invites and some Halloween cards I finished.
Also Boy Scout shirts - lil' dude is a Tiger Scout, and since his sister isn't in Brownies this year Jeff & I did not want her to feel excluded, expecially since she goes with to lots of the activities, and she is a super popcorn seller. I cut out "Scouting Sister" in heat-vinyl and applied it to a shirt. She loved it! So I followed up with t-shirts for Jeff & I.
I have even been working on some LO's, so I will will try to share a lot over the next couple of days.

Maddox's Birthday Invite

I decided it was time for Jeff & my extended families to get together again - and the best way is for the kids. Maddox's birthday is in June, so we are going to have family birthday party at our house. Jeff & I made the invites. I knew I wanted to use a pirate map with an "X". My very crafty husband came up with the idea to add the palm tree and the map lines, and the paper choice was his. The map idea was more work than I had planned. Originally I wanted to cut a map with my cricut - but I couldn't find a .cut file or .svg, and all my attempts at tracing were for naught. In the end I found a map I liked with google images, printed it, cut it out, then traced it onto cardboard, and cut it out as a template. I printed all the invtes out on parchment paper. Used my template to trace the map. Cut it out, inked the edges (with different shades of brown), crumpled the map, and added the decorations. The skull was cut from Indie Art, and the palm tree and X are from Life's a Beach. The map lines are freehand.
Maddox hasn't seen the finished product yet - but he was super excited at the concept.
I stuck a random piece of paper across the middle (to block details, sorry) while I would love for you all to join us, there will be more than enough nuttiness with both our families without adding the blog world.

Wall Hangings

I got this inspiration for wall hangings from Pam over at my favorite site She made 10" squares like this using a piece of foam board purchased at the Dollar Store. Put 2 squares together and glue with shims between the layers to make them dimensional. These DIY squares are much more affordable than canvas squares. Pam stretched canvas on her's - but I opted for some 12x12 dp (me & my big ideas specialty cardstock) I decorated the squares with some cricut cuts from the Storybook cart (and lots of glitter on the "R"). I hung them in Rileigh's room and will surprise her next time she is here. I bought 2 sheets of foam board, so I be making 3 squares for my little dude too.

Every year for Mother's Day the kids give me their handprints. Rileigh & Maddox won't be back until after Mother's Day, so we did handprints this past weekend. Maddox moved his hands mid-print, but it gives the print character. All of Rileigh's prints have the missing palms - it is my favorite part about her prints. Look how big her hands are! They are both getting so big. Thanks angels!

Sorry I have not posted in so long. I usually blog while I at work (shhh, don't tell), but I have been so busy there lately that until today, I haven't had any time to blog or browse. At home, Jeff & I have been spending all our free time organizing the garage and the basement, Spring cleaning, and cleaning up the yard (oodles of fun). I have to tell you though - the house looks great. I am really proud of both of us - we have accomplished a lot. Now that everything is put away (labelled of course) there is a whole lot more space.

Lila and Jeff had their birthdays last weekend, so the 3 of us spent a lot of time together. We went on a few bike rides. We started taking Lila to the tennis court to chase balls - she loves it!Lila is 2 now, and officially no longer a puppy!

I am in the process of reorganizing all my craft stuff - I moved it around so now it is all stored together. It will take a while to get it just how I want it, but Jeff is glad all crafty stuff moved out of our bedroom.

Paper is me & my BIG ideas paper pad. I cut the ornaments out from a different sheet from me & my BIG ideas paper pad. I tied floss to the ornaments and "hung" them. The letters were cut with SCAL 2 on Core'dinations paper, run throught the Cuttlebug with a Swiss Dots embossing folder and lightly sanded.

LO for Jeff & I. I used leaf nesties to cut the photos, and used the same nestie as stencils for the photo mats. I tried something new and added some stamps to the empty spaces. I added some embossing powder to each stamped image to make sure I wouldn't smudge the images.

Hanging Christmas lights

Here is LO for Rileigh's book. The Christmas lights are from me & my BIG ideas paper pad, I added some Angel Wingz Shimmerz over the lights to give the appearance of them being lit. Other than that, I cropped the photos and used a cornor rounder. The best part of this LO is Rileigh's smiling face in the pictures. She was so excited to help hang the lights - and she loved being able to climb the ladder. She was so fearless climbing to the top, she did not want her Dad or me helping out at all. When Jeff hung lights, Rileigh tried to steady the ladder for him - she is such an amazing helper!

I have actually been really busy crafting lately, but just not good about posting my projects. I have been catching up on LO's and am happy to say that I have both kids caught up to Christmas pages (and some of those are done). They will both be so excited to see new pages. This page is actually Lila's. The dp is from a paper stack (I don't remember which one) The stars are cut out of paper from Debbie Mumm Harvest & Holiday - added a cross stitch to the centers. Lila's pix was cut out with a scalloped oval nestie and matted on a larger one. The Christmas bulb is left over from a LO I did for Rileigh (cut out from me & my BIG ideas paper pad). The ornament was cut with the Cricut (Christmas Cheer), and the letters were cut with SCAL.

Another Rileigh Card

Another card by Rileigh... She used Nina's "Lucky Bear" digi from TMITA. She made a birthday card for her friend Bella. We also altered a glass block for her friend (but silly me, I did not take pictures of that) Maddox watched Rileigh & I color, and he asked how I colored so neatly, I explained that by no means is it perfect, but that I try to go very slowly and that helps. Well then Rileigh lamented that her bear looked awful because she had colored outside the lines. I showed her how a white gel pen can clean up some of that. We left some though so he would look fuzzy, like a real bear. She loved sewing on the buttons, the flowers were a little tricky, but she did it. Next time the kids come we will make them glass blocks, because now Rileigh wants one - and I am sure Maddox will too, as soon as he sees hers.

Found some inspiration this weekend

I had a productive weekend. I scrapbook - well I used to. Then I got busy with the holidays and could not get back into it. I would try but I was not nearly as inspired as I had been, and I was not getting LO's done like I would have liked. I also fell into the world of card making, which involves a smaller work space, less supplies, and faster results, so I turned to making cards - a lot of cards. But I was feeling guilty about not scrapping, I take so many pictures, I like to be able to keep track of all the memories. So when I was at HL over the weekend, I saw the book "The Busy Scrapper" by Courtney Walsh, and read it cover to cover and took in as much inspiration as I could - I am happy to say it worked. It is a great book! I finished 3 Lo's yesterday afternoon, and have 8 more in the works in my head. So without further ado, here are 2 of them...

Another skating LO - this one for Jeff & I. I used a MS punch for the snowflake border on the right side. The photo mats are 4x4 and embossed with the Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder. Behind the mats are foil scallopped square mats cut with a nestie, and also embossed with the Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder. I got the idea to use aluminum foil from Nina over at 'There's Magic in the Air" I think it added a little something. I cut the skate out with SCAL 2, and added my own laces with embroidery floss. The skate blade is painted with silver Blingz (2 coats)

The dp is from DCWV All About Boys, it had Superman in the corner, but I trimmed the paper down and saved Superman for something else. The hat & wand are from google images, traced in SCAL 2 and cut & the hat is also shadowed. A little Artic Frost stickles were added to the ends of the wand. I found the star border online, cut it twice and the little stars are used to come out of the hat. I edged the border with a gold gel pen for definition. The letters were cut with SCAL 2 - using Core'dinations paper. I have a ton of this paper, but this is the first time I used it. I have been hoarding it for "just the right project" - I don't know why I do that, I buy stuff and don't use it. So I tried the paper. Black Magic with a yellow core, and it cuts well, and sands so easily. I am a little mad that I have waited to use it, and have wasted so many opportunities. That is definetly one of the tips I took out of the book, use what you have. My husband will be happy to not have me shopping, and I am going to enjoy all the "stuff" I bought, by actually using it.

While I did finish this project last week, I am am only uploading it today, so while technically it is late I am playing along anyways. I picked up the dp at Archivers last year in the clearance section. I cut the Shamrocks out with SCAL 2, ran them through Cuttlebug embossing folders (divine swirls & swiss dots) and pop dotted them on a white circle cut and embossed with a circle nestie. The sentiment is actually a piece of ribbon picked up at Michaels, as is the green shamrock ribbon. Thanks for looking!

I made this card for my Dad. The image is from http://dustinpike.blogspot.com/ (his 2/25/10 post) This lion is perfect for early March cards, what with the weather and all. I also like that he is flying a kite, I have fond memories of doing that with my Dad when I was younger - so hopefully my Dad will remember those days too. I am sending the card with a calendar I made my Dad. Every year for Christmas I scrap a calendar for Grandpa with pictures of all his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids - I include everyone's birthday and phone number to make it easy for him to call someone - if he wants. Well, my brother mentioned wanting one so he got a modified one for Christmas (it had fewer pictures of extended family, more of him with the kids & dogs). Then my Dad mentioned wanting one, which blew me away, because I never pictured my Dad as "into" or appreciative of crafts, but I just finished his calendar and I plan to send it out tomorrow or Saturday. It is a little late, but I hope he appreciates it.
Colored with Copics, more scrap paper, a MS punch, and 3 pieces of left over ribbon. I am working on using paper scraps, because I have a ton - and if I use it all I can justify more paper :)

There's Magic in the Air

The challenge over at http://theresmagicintheair.blogspot.com/ this week is to use any of Nina's fabulous digis with a sketch provided by Patti. Nina did offer up previously issued "Orson with cake" an an option. My Grandpa turns 88 today and he has always collected statues/figurines of the 3 monkeys - see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil - so Orson was the perfect fit. Colored with Copics. I added a lil Shimmerz to the frosting to complete the yummy cake. Scrap papers. I also tried something new - I used chalks. My amzing, wonderful husband took me craft shopping as an early anniversary gift (we had a 50% coupon buring a hole in my pocket) and we picked out chalks. I had never tried them before, but where have I been?! So I went to work last night, and with a little practice I think I will really get the hang of it. I also bought the Making Memories Distressing Tool Nilla showcased last week on her blog (http://nillascraftroom.blogspot.com/) - thank you for enabling :) Unfortunately I will not be giving the card to my Grandpa for a few weeks. He (and my Mom) went on a two week cruise from Argentina to Chile, they were supposed to come hom today - but now he is stuck in South America, unable to fly out due to earthquake damage. He is fine, though apparently he is a little cranky in that he can't come home. Reports keep changing when he and Mom will return. I think the decision this morning was to repeat the cruise in reverse so that they can get back to Argentina and fly out from there, so their two week vacation may turn into an almost 4 week excursion. All I know is there had better be tons of pictures, and I have some time to create a mini album for his trip!

I made another card for this challenge using the "Lucky Bear" image from last week. I need more St Patrick's Day cards to the sketch helped with this one too. Again I used scrap paper, a MS punch, some festive ribbon I picked up at Michaels. Stickles on the balloon. I also tried to do a little more shading with the balloon for this version. More St Patrick's Day cards

Here is another card using the "Lucky Bear" image from Nina over at TMITA. I have been looking at how other people color, and noticed that most "finish" the background whereas - I normally leave the background white. So I tried something different, I used a yellow colored pencil and some OMS around the bear, and a yellowish-green around the grass. I sponged brown around the whole image, and though it doesn't look near as nice as most, if I practice more I might get better.

This card and the next three are pretty c&s. I cut the shamrocks out with my Cricut and mounted them on different DCWV Designer Stack papers. Ribbon is from Paper Source, the glittery shamrock came in a pack of 10-12 at HL ($1.19 with 40% off coupon). I ran the shamrocks through my Cuttlebug in the Swiss Dots embossing folder. I found the Irish proverb for the above card online, and printed it out.

I think this last one is my favorite - I really like how it turned out with the colors and the layered nesties.

TMITA Challenge

This week the challenge over at http://theresmagicintheair.blogspot.com/ includes using "Lucky Bear" and any techniques for distressing. I am not a fan of distressing - well maybe that's not accurate, I don't mind admiring others' distressed works, but I have issues "destroying" my projects. I am the type of person who will restaple a stack of papers if they are not perfectly lined up. I normally would have shied away from this sketch, but in that it one of my personal goals to keep crafting (and this weekly challenge is my main motivator) I tried it. I did visit Nilla's Distressing tutorial over at http://nillascraftroom.blogspot.com/ for help/guidance, and I found do like the look of the distressing tool from Making Memories (maybe distressing wouldn't be so bad with it, thanks for enabling me)- however I made do with scissors (not fun) on both the green cs and scrap dp. I also used my emery board to sand the scallops on the green nesties. I was tempted to crumple the whole thing up and hide, but then I saw some ribbon and thought frayed ends distress me (ha ha)- so they must count, and added green and white ribbon. I colored the bear with copics, and added some green stickles to the balloon. In the end it wasn't as painful as I thought, so maybe ripping some white paper for snowhills is better then rounded perfect hills - I will try that soon. I rambled more than usual in this post, so I do apologize for that. Thanks for looking.

St Pat's Card

Perfect for St. Patrick's cards. So here is the first of several St Pat's cards I will make. I was gifted some Copic markers from my husband - as an anniversary present. So the image is colored with both Copics and Prismacolor markers. The gold accents were colored with a gold gel pen and some ultra find MS glitter is added for emphasis. The image was cut and matted on circle scallop nesties. The background is stamped with Versmark ink. To "tie" the look together (haha) a green stain ribbon, and a shamrock punch in the vellum. May the luck of the Irish be with you.

Another Skating LO

This LO is for Maddox's scrapbook. The patterned paper is DCWV All About Boys. The scalloped oval and circle were cut with Sure Cuts a Lot, I obtained the files from Scrapped Lives (http://scrappedlives.nl/) she has incredible files, and is so generous with them. I embossed the green cardstock with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I cannot remember from where I obtained the skate file - but thank you! I really like it and have enjoyed resizing it for two LO's so far.

There's Magic in the Air Challenge

I love this image "Flight of the Fuschia" designed by Nina, and when Nina offered it last week I knew I would use it over and over. My cousin eloped over the weekend and when I found out I knew this image would work perfectly for a congratulatory card. This week's challenge called for using a circle for the image or the saying and lace. I forgot to use a circle, but I did use a punch to creat a scalloped lace-effect at the bottom. I pop dotted the image on lavendar cardstock. I embossed the edges of the card with a cuttlebug embossing border. I layered sheer white ribbon and purple rick rack to the bottom of the card over the lacy scallop. So congrats Andrew & Sarah!

Learning to Skate LO

This is a LO I made for Rileigh's scrapbook. Jeff & I took the kids skating after Christmas, and the kids were so excited to try skating. Rileigh did not fall down much, we worked on the basics - step, step, slide. She enjoyed holding on to her Dad and me more than skating! We had so much fun, and they still talk about it. Jeff & I had to work on our patience skills while the kids learned to skate.
For the LO, I embossed the photo mats with a Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder. The white and blue snowflakes are cut from Sizzix dies, which I layered and embellished the centers with rhinestones. I cannot recall where I found the skate file online, but I cut it with SCAL. I used silver Blings to colors the skate blades, and used some thread to make laces. The skates are pop dotted on some scalloped oval nesties. The background is stamped with white and silver snowflakes, to which I added some ultra fine Martha Stewart glitter. As an added touch I tied some silver ribbon below one of the photo mats. Not typical Rileigh colors - but I think it will work.

Valentine's Day Card #3

I decided to go with non-traditional colors for Maddox's Valentine's card. This image is from There's Magic in the Air, Nina offered it the week of January 25th. The challenge was to use the image in conjunction with a treat holder. Does affixing it to a card count as a treat? Just kidding. I used my Martha Stuart loop punch for the bottom. Some scrap paper in the background and a little riboon as an accent. The image is colored with colored pencils. Thanks for looking.

This image is from There's Magic in the Air, from the week of January 18th. The challenge was to use red ribbon, buttons, glitter, or something that sparkles.
I colored the image with colored pencils, and used Prismacolor markers for some slight accents. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the background, and added some red ribbon as an accent. On one side I stamped silver sparkly hearts, and a simple love sentiment on the other side. I matted the image with foam squares on an oval nestie that I ran through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots embossing folder.

Another image from There's Magic in the Air - I missed participating in this challenge the week of February 1st. What a cute teddy bear! Thanks Nina. I made a birthday card for my friend's young daughter.
I colored the image with colored pencils. I used my newest nestie (a birthday present from my husband), and I love it! I used up lots of scraps (background paper and the purple ribbon). I picked up the Prima flowers in the clearance section of Michaels, and used them for the first time. I am thinking of adding a happy birthday label, but have not decided yet.

Well, I am back and last night I worked really hard to make a few cards - it felt so great to be creative again! I am going to post some more cards in the coming days. I haven't been home much in the past few months, so it has been a long time since I crafted.
This image came from Nina at There's Magic in the Air. The challenge was to make a comforting card and include flourishes and/or pearls. I forgot the flourishes, but did try using pearls for the first time. I missed my Cuttlebug so much these past few months - so we spents lots of quality time together :)
I colored the image with colored pencils. I used circle scalloped nesties. I inked the edges of the white circle with yellow. I stamped some flowery patterns in the background with a Versamark watermark stamp. I was going to add some glitter, but shied away from it for the tone of the card.

This week's image by Nina is in anticipation of Christmas. For the challenge we were to incorporate something fuzzy. I lurked over at Curt's blog and decided to try following his very thorough instructions for using colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits. Not nearly as fabulous at Curt - but I tried. For something fuzzy I used some faux flower soft on the Santa hat. I used my new bulb stamp as corner accents. Thanks for looking!

There's Magic in the Air

Nina came up with the cutest digi this week over at: http://theresmagicintheair.blogspot.com/ You can just imagine him flying by on the ice. Kim's challenge this week was to use something reflective. So after looking at everyone's card - I loved Nina's with the foil, and planned to scrap lift it. Plus I happen to have foil, so my husband was happy I did not go buy something. I colored the penguin with Prismacolors. I used flower soft on the brim and ball of the hat. The foil was cut out with a scalloped oval Nestie, and embossed with a Cuttlebug Divine Swirls Embossing Folder. This card is extra special because Maddox helped make it. He woke up at 5 AM this morning (does not bode well for our full day, but...) he wanted to craft and he sponged ink all over the background and he did a wonderful job of setting the scene for a cold, blustery, wintery ice skating experience.

When I first started this blog - I thought it would be a once in a while thing, to share LO's I made. That quickly turned into the cards I make, and the new challenges I find (btw - thank you for all the new techniques I have picked up from these blog-hopping visits, and all the inspiration you all provide, and how welcoming you have all been!) Blogging creeps into my thoughts, and is pretty time consuming. I check my blog all the time to see how many hits I have and if there are any new comments (thank you so much for all the kind words, they make me so happy!) I check out the blogs I follow and the blogs those people follow. I even wake up a few minutes earlier to see if "anything" excited happened in my blog & extended blog world.

I used the sketch from http://priscillastyles.blogspot.com/ for this card. I used blue cs that I sponged with white and silver ink, the picture doesn't really show it though. I painted the lily with frosted lace stickles, and the angel wings with shimmerz and then pop dotted them on a darker piece of blue cs. I cut the swirls from SCAL with my Cricut. A little ribbon and the MS loop punch to finish it off. I made this card for the Anderson Family - Sarah is a fellow scrapper and her 3-year son recently passed away. I do not know Sarah, but learned of her loss on another blog, and wanted to pass along my sympathies. I cannot imagine what she must be going through.

Nina over at http://theresmagicintheair.blogspot.com/ once again generously donated a digi "Elegant Pumpkins" for this challenge. The image can be multi-colored, but the card should be monochromatic, and white, black or grey can be added. I went with shades of brown. I colored the image with prismacolors and then used my leaf nestie to cut out the shape. Mounted it on an embossed circle in a dark brown. The background paper is from Debbie Mumm. I added some brown & white polka dot ribbon adorned with 2 tan leaves punched from an EK Success punch. Thanks for looking.

Paper is from Debbie Mumm, leaves are from a Fiskars squeeze punch and an EK Success punch, I ran the red paper through my Cuttlebug, and the squirrel is from a blog I visited (http://dustinpike.blogspot.com/). His site often offer free digis, and they are very cool. I tried to incorporate lots of fall colors and themes - and the nuts are very cute. I love his chubby cheeks!

Thanksgiving Pot

Sorry I haven't posted lately, I have been crafting just running out of time to take pix and upload. Here is one of my Fall pots. There is a scarecrow, a nut Maddox picked out, some red leaves (my favorite) that Rileigh picked out, and a turkey I made. I painted a large styrofoam ball brown, the feathers are large popsicle sticks, eyes are black beads, gold wire for beak, and pipe cleaners for legs. In the background you can see part of the Cinderella pumpkin the kids picked out. It's hard to believe it is November as it is in the high 60's today.

Nilla came up with this week's challenge to use buttons with the image. As I was uploading I realized I only used one button. But I did decorate the button. I curled copper colored wire through the button holes. I love the curly ques - I just wish they didn't get smooshed in the mail.
This time of year reminds me to be thankful for all the great things in my life, and to let go of the little things. BTW Jeff thank you for cleaning up the yard this weekend - it looks great!

Halloween treats

These are the spiders I made for us to hand out to trick or treaters. The circles are made with a 2" scallop circle punch. The legs are punchd from a photo corner punch (2 colors layered). Googly eyes were glue dotted to the top circle. A York Peppermint Patty is sandwiched between another scalloped circle. (You can use any kind of circular candy)

Another Christmas Card - using Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge # 25 (check it out at: http://priscillastyles.blogspot.com/) Colored with Prismacolor markers. I inked the edges of the aqua circle with white ink and added a little Shimmerz to give it a little something special. I really love Shimmerz (my favorite color is Angel Wings). The product comes in a little jar and paints on to give a little sparkle. Snowflake brads and a slim silver ribbon complete the look.

Here is my submission for Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #24. I am making Christmas cards for my Mom, so Mom here's one you will see again in a few weeks. I used lots of sparkly background papers (DCWV Glitteres Christmas Mat Stack). The holly leaves were cut from the Cricut "Christmas Cheer" cartridge. I cut and embossed a Nesties scalloped circle. This design was hard for me, I've struggled with it for a week, but I really like how it turned out.

I just love this Frankenstein image. Colored with Prismacolor markers. I cut him out using Scallopped Circle Nesties, embossing the purple layer. A little purple and black ribbon to top it off (or bottom it off in this case- haha)
